celebrating the invisible strength of motherhood this mother's Day

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating care in all its forms — especially the care that often goes unseen.
For too long, society has celebrated the outcomes of nurturing — the tidy homes, the organized schedules, the successful milestones — without acknowledging the invisible weight it takes to hold it all together. The truth is, mothering isn't limited to raising children. It's the daily, intentional work of carrying emotional labor, anticipating needs, creating safety, and holding space for others — often without recognition.
This unseen work has a name: the mental load. It’s remembering every birthday, planning meals while juggling meetings, resolving conflicts before they grow, and quietly managing the emotions and well-being of those around us. Research shows that women — whether mothers or not — still carry the majority of this emotional and invisible labor, leading to higher rates of anxiety, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
But here’s the truth we’re standing in this Mother's Day: Carrying care is an act of strength. Reclaiming rest is an act of power. Choosing to nurture yourself is revolutionary.
Some quick stats that could help you feel seen and understand the power of self care:
Women carry 2/3 of household tasks even when working full-time. Pew Research Center
Emotional Labor - managing feeling, smoothing conflicts, planning, anticipating needs - is almost always unpaid and unrecognized in most workplaces and homes. Arlie Hochschild, The Second Shift
Studies show that carrying an invisible mental load contributes to higher rates of anxiety and burnout in women compared to men. American Psychological Association
We believe that redefining motherhood means honoring the many ways we mother — our families, our communities, our ideas, and ourselves. It means making space for rest, healing, and restoration without guilt.
Something that my family has been implementing to help create equity with mental load is Fair Play. A gamified system with four easy-to-follow rules, 100 household tasks, and a figurative card game you play with your partner.
If you are carrying more than what’s visible, if your heart and mind are full from holding space for others, you deserve care that pours back into you.
At Elevate, we are proud to offer spaces for that restoration — including therapeutic massage and energy work with Kolika, our Licensed Massage Therapist and albularyo (traditional Filipino healer), whose practice is rooted in ancestral wisdom and modern healing. Learn more about Kolika here.
This Mother's Day, we honor the nurturers, the space-holders, the cycle-breakers, and the dreamers. We see you. We celebrate you. And we invite you to choose yourself — not just today, but every day.
Give the gift of restoration to yourself or someone you love. We invite you to honor the invisible work, the emotional labor, and the deep nurturing that often goes uncelebrated.
