August often feels like a reset. As routines change and calendars fill up, it’s easy to put yourself last.
It can also be a good time to ask: What routines actually help me feel well?
At Elevate, we believe well-being isn’t built in one big moment. It’s created through small, intentional routines and the places that help us reconnect with ourselves.
The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to wellness. For some, it’s an early morning workout or a walk through the park.
For others, it’s discovering a local market, spending quality time with loved ones, or simply making space to slow down. The routines may look different, but they all begin with choosing to care for yourself.
So, as part of our Elevate Guide to Kansas City, we asked our team:
“What healthy routine helps you feel your best, and where in Kansas City do you go to support it?”
Their answers are a reminder that healthy routines can look very different—and that Kansas City is full of places that can help us care for ourselves along the way.
Carley: Movement, Family + Shopping Local
For Carley, supporting her well-being includes movement, taking care of her family, and choosing local businesses whenever she can.
“I like going to the Merriam Community Center because they have tons of clean exercise equipment and amazing childcare. I also love going to Your Family Chiropractic with my family, shopping for local foods and goods at Franklin General Store in Shawnee, and picking up fresh sourdough from Everything Sourdough.”
What we love about Carley’s routine is that wellness isn't separated from everyday life. Exercise, family time, nourishing food, and supporting businesses within the Kansas City community can all become part of taking care of yourself.
Kolika: Building Strength at Woodside
For Kolika, feeling her best starts with feeling strong.
“Working out and getting my body strong is one of my favorite healthy routines. I usually go to Woodside!”
Regular movement can be about much more than checking off a workout. Finding a form of movement—and a place to do it—that you genuinely enjoy can make caring for your body something you look forward to rather than another obligation.
Amanda: Making Time for Connection
Amanda's routine is a good reminder that well-being doesn't always have to look like a traditional “wellness” activity.
“I’m really bad with routines, but I do set time aside every Sunday to nurture my relationship with my partner by finding new places and activities together.”
Setting aside intentional time to connect has become her routine. Exploring new places and experiences around Kansas City gives Amanda and her partner dedicated time together while also keeping them connected to their community.
Sometimes a healthy routine isn't something you do every morning. It can simply be something meaningful you consistently make room for.
Sydney: Starting the Day With Time for Herself
Sydney starts her mornings by intentionally creating space for herself.
“My healthy routine is making sure I have me time every morning to care for myself by doing my beauty rituals so I can feel more like me!”
A beauty routine doesn't have to be about changing how you look. The ritual itself can create a few quiet minutes to slow down, check in with yourself, and begin the day feeling more grounded.
At Elevate, this idea is close to our hearts. Hair, skincare, massage, movement, time outdoors, nourishing food, and connection can all be forms of self-care when they help you feel more at home in yourself.
Finding Your Own Healthy Routine in Kansas City
The best wellness routine is the one that actually supports your life.
Maybe that's strength training at a local gym. Maybe it's finding fresh food from a Kansas City-area business, taking a walk outside, creating a morning ritual, exploring somewhere new with someone you love, or scheduling time to care for yourself.
You don't have to adopt someone else's version of wellness. Instead, consider asking yourself:
What helps me feel more like myself—and how can I make a little more room for it?
Come Back to Yourself
Healthy routines don’t have to be complicated, perfectly planned, or look the same every day. Sometimes, well-being is simply making a little more room for the things that bring you back to yourself.
As you settle into a new season and a fuller routine, we hope you find small ways to care for yourself, stay connected, and feel grounded in the everyday.
Kansas City is full of places to move, explore, connect, nourish yourself, and slow down. Sometimes the first step is simply noticing which ones make you feel good and returning to them.
Because taking care of yourself isn’t one more thing to add to the list.
It’s how you come back to you.
